Over the last 25 years as a studio artist in Ventura County I have painted and sketched people, pets, landscapes and interiors. I work in oils and studied with various teachers in the area, inspired by impressionism through the Old Masters. Most influential to my work have been John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn and Joaquin Sorolla. Additionally, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, their styles went against the traditional painting standards of the time. The impression of color and its use to derive a mood moved away from the realistic renderings of life represented by the artist.
Narrative paintings are inspiring one to think about the scene captured on the canvas, while portraits will reflect the special inner-sense of the subject using highlights in just the right way. Capturing the feel of the subject on the canvas is my goal.
